I'm Sandra Tanner. I build custom, high-ranking websites for businesses across New Zealand, Australia, the UK, and the US from my desk in Mahurangi East, north of Auckland.

How I got here

After failing my Fifth Form Certificate from Takapuna Grammar School, I had to repeat the year. That lasted all of a month before my mother packed me off to secretarial college.

It turns out that was a stroke of luck: secretarial college taught me the single most valuable skill I own, how to touch-type fast.

Forty-odd years later, that speed still matters. Except today, AI does the typing while I do the thinking and strategy. I've been building for the web for two decades, and I've used AI in every single build since early 2023, long before traditional agencies knew what to do with it.

When I'm not at my desk in Warkworth, my partner and I are usually out on our launch. I love fishing, and yes, I even have a desk setup on board so I can code from the water with our Starlink dish mounted on the flybridge.

Walking, and a site I built in 2007

The other thing that gets me away from the desk is walking. In 2007 I built freewalks.nz, a free directory of New Zealand walking tracks, and it is still online.

Background and training

I hold formal training through the eBusiness Institute in digital strategy, SEO, and site monetisation, backed by over 80 live client sites currently running on the web.

I work Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm from Warkworth, but because the whole process runs on email and phone, location is never a barrier.
